The population of the Danville micropolitan area, which includes portions of Boyle and Lincoln counties, grew by more than 7,400 residents between 1990 and 2012, according to figures released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.
As of July, 53,119 people lived in the Danville area, a nearly 16 percent increase from the 45,686 residents reported in the 1990 Census.
A reasonably low cost of living along with a good quality of life have continually attracted people to the Danville micropolitan area, said Matt Belcher, executive director of the Lincoln County Economic Development Authority.
Other Kentucky communities experienced even higher rates of growth between 1990 and 2012, according to a reporter’s analysis of Census statistics.
Federal officials annually publish a list of the highest rates of growth nationwide. Only one part of Kentucky, Clarksville, made the Census’ ranking list of the 50 fastest-growing communities. Clarksville population statistics also include a portion of Tennessee; the community was ranked the second fastest-growing area in the entire country.
