PERRYVILLE — The Raptors Motorcycle Club has teamed up once again with American Legion Post 301 in Perryville to deliver a “message of hope” to some less fortunate children and families in the community this Christmas.

Organizers recently donated $4,000 to Perryville Fire Department to aid the Toys for Tots program. The money represents a 25 percent increase over last year. This year’s donation makes a total of more than $15,000 that organizers have given over the last five years.

Anthony Young accepted the gift on behalf of the fire department. The money will help support 17 families and 35 children.

The fundraising starts in August when the Raptors and American Legion partner to hold an annual poker run. Riders from all over the state converge on Perryville to participate in one of the largest organized rides in central Kentucky. This year, the event attracted 298 motorcycles and more than 350 participants. After a ride of about 100 miles, with various stops along the way, participants arrived back at the American Legion where the Legion members had prepared a huge meal for the guests.

Legion members started cooking when the ride began and didn’t stop until the last guest had been fed.

Thousands of dollars in door prizes donated by area merchants were given away.
