U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-Bowling Green, recently took a tour of Asbury University in Wilmore. Wilmore and the western part of Jessamine County were moved to Guthrie's 2nd Congressional District during the redistricting process earlier this year. U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie will speak at the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce AT&T Public Policy luncheon Wednesday at the Danville Country Club.
Guthrie represents Kentucky’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, which includes Boyle, Mercer and Garrard counties. He serves on both the House Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce for the 113th Congress. He also serves on the following subcommittees for E&C: Subcommittee on Health; Subcommittee on Communications and Technology; and Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade.
Guthrie graduated in 1987 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a degree in economics and went on to serve as a field artillery officer in the 101st Airborne Division — Air Assault at Fort Campbell. He later earned a master’s degree from Yale University in public and private management.
Guthrie comes from a small business, manufacturing background. Following his military service, he joined Trace Die Cast, which was a manufacturing business started by his father in Bowling Green. First elected to public office in 1998, Guthrie represented the 32nd District in the Kentucky Senate. In Frankfort, he served on the Education Committee, the Economic Development, Tourism and Labor Committee, and chaired the Transportation Committee.
