A Harrodsburg man was arrested late Thursday when he flipped his car after nearly having a head-on collision with a Danville police cruiser.
According to police, officer Ricky Sellers, who was on duty, was traveling south on Ky. 33 heading into a curve north of Candlewood subdivision about 10:15 p.m.
As Sellers turned into the curve, he met a Buick Park Avenue driven by Michael S. Biliter, 57, of Harrodsburg, which had crossed the double yellow line and was attempting to pass another northbound vehicle in the southbound lane.
Sellers was forced to drive off the road into the grass to avoid a head-on collision. After he returned to the road to pursue the vehicle, Sellers saw Biliter’s vehicle out of control in mid air about a half mile north on Ky. 33.
Biliter’s vehicle left the east side of the roadway and traveled more than 100 yards before crossing the road again twice and overturning. The vehicle ended up on its top against a stone fence on the east side of the road.
Biliter and his dog had to be extricated from the vehicle by Danville Fire Department, but he did not suffer serious injuries and refused assistance from Boyle County Emergency Medical Service.
He was arrested and charged with reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer and no insurance.
Biliter was booked into the Boyle County Detention Center where he also faces a third-degree criminal mischief charge for damaging the handcuffs he was wearing after his arrest. No bond had been set in the case.
The dog was taken by Boyle County Animal Control.
