Armed robber targets Danville motel

Nothing was taken during an attempted armed robbery Tuesday night at a Danville motel after an employee locked himself in a room and called 911.

Danville police responded to a call of a possible robbery in progress at the Quality Inn at 96 Daniel Drive at 11:22 p.m. The motel sits just off the Danville bypass near Shoney’s restaurant.

Employee Ronald Strader, 39, told police someone about 5 feet, 10 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall, dressed in a waist-length dark jacket and wearing a white rubber mask pointed what he believed to be a single-barrel, wood-stock rifle at him. The employee was working alone at the hotel and did not even wait to hear the intruder speak before securing himself in a lockable storeroom off the open lobby. The robber was gone when police arrived.

A general manager at the motel this morning said company policy prevented any statement about the incident to be made at this time.
