BURGIN — Burgin students will start classes Aug. 1, just one day earlier than they did in 2011-2012.
The last day of classes will be May 24, also one day earlier than the previous academic year, according to Burgin Independent Schools Superintendent Richard Webb.
“Our calendar changes very little year to year,” Webb said. “We have been on the alternative year-round calendar for the past 14 years and it seems to work well for us.”
Fall break will be Oct. 1-12, while winter break will be Dec. 20-Jan. 2. Other days off school include Aug. 20, Sept. 3 (Labor Day), Sept. 17, Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving), Nov. 23, Jan. 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), Feb. 15, Feb. 18 and March 18.
Unless there are snow days to make up, the 2012-13 spring break will be March 25-29.
Because of Burgin’s alternative year-round calendar, the major breaks and graduation dates can be scheduled years in advance, according to Webb.
Graduation ceremonies for the Burgin High School Class of 2013 will be May 24, one day earlier than 2012 commencement exercises.
