Obituary: Dr. Barbara Ellis Taylor (December 10, 2012) |
Dr. Barbara Ellis Taylor, age 80, of Alachua, Fla., passed away Dec. 7, 2012, after an extended illness.
Dr. Taylor was professor emeritus at the University of Florida. She devoted her life to education for women and children.
Born March 23, 1932, in Marion County, Ky., she was a daughter of Cecil Ellis and Alma Ellis.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 56 years, Dr. Clifton Taylor; her sons, Brian Scott Taylor (Marie) and Dr. Steven Ellis Taylor (Martha); grandchildren, Joshua Taylor, Amie Imler (Brandon), Travis Taylor and Shelby Taylor; sisters Jewell Deene Ellis, Shirley Sheperson, Wilma Ewbank, Kaye Thurman, Karen Marsee and Marlena Ellis; and brothers, Dale Ellis, Darrell Ellis and Barry Ellis. She was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Ellis Jr.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home followed by burial at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, Ky.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to either of the following scholarship funds: The Taylor Family Forestry Scholarship at University of Kentucky’s College of Agriculture; or The Dr. Barbara E. Taylor Fellowship for Graduate Studies in Family, Youth and Community Sciences at University of Florida.
