FULTON, Ind. — Freddie Glen Rice, 73, of Fulton, Ind., passed away at 5:30 a.m. Jan. 3, 2013, at his residence, after a nine-month battle with cancer.

He was born June 10, 1939, in Moreland, the son of the late Fred and Essie Thomas Rice. Freddie had lived in Gravel Switch, Logansport, Ind., Twelve Mile, Ind., and Pendleton, Ind. prior to moving to Fulton. He served with the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1965. On Jan. 26, 1979 in Logansport, Ind., he married Elizabeth “Jan” Pittman and she survives.

Mr. Rice had been a safety hazard manager for the State of Indiana, having served over 40 years in fire service. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, gardening and sitting and visiting on his front porch on Main Street in Fulton.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Steve) Whitaker of Wetmore, Kan., and Sue Rice (Kevin) Schmitz of Netawaka, Kan.; one step-son, Shawn “Mike” (Ute) Fuller of Clarksville, Tenn.; one step-daughter, Kimberly (Brad) Doyle of Monticello, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Rice, Joseph Rice and David (Beulah) Rice, all of Boyle County; and one sister, Lillian Rice (Charlie) Allender of Sand Knob, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Bonnie D. Rice; three brothers, Michael "Bubby" Rice, Douglas Rice and Otis Rice; two sisters, Norma Rice and Nancy Reynolds; a brother-in-law, Elwood Reynolds; and a sister-in-law, Ella Rice.
