Obituary: Joseph Stogsdill (1929-2013)

STANFORD — Joseph "Arnold" Stogsdill, 83, of Stanford, passed away Jan. 3, 2013 at home.

He was born May 25, 1929, in Pulaski County, to the late Josiah and Nora Hargis Stogsdill. He was a retired plumber and electrician, and a member of Stanford Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since 1964 and a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years.

Survivors include one son, Joe (Becky) Stogsdill of Stanford; one daughter, Pamela (Eddie) Fins of Stanford; one brother, Okel (Zan) Stogsdill; two sisters, Mary and Dorothy Mounce, both of Somerset; two grandchildren, Stephanie Fins and Seth Stogsdill; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Imogene Stogsdill, who passed away Dec. 16, 2012; three brothers, Ermil, Orville, and Othnal Stogsdill; and four sisters, Edna Whitis, Elma Haste, and Olive and Doris Stogsdill.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Stevens, Fred Reichenbach, Tommy Owens, Glenn Spoonamore, Eddie Fins and Bobby Weaver. Honorary pallbearers include deacons of Stanford Baptist Church, employees of Tommy Owens, Dr. Glenn Click and Earl Nantz. Military honors will be presented by Caswell Saufley Post No. 18 American Legion.

Visitation is from 5-9 p.m today (Sunday).
