Madalyn Sheperson

Madalyn Overstreet Sheperson, 88, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, after a lengthy illness. 

Born in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Myrtle Delaney Overstreet and the widow of Cecil Hilton Sheperson of Forkland.

Madalyn was a longtime member of Gravel Switch Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was a graduate of Forkland High School where she was salutatorian of her class and later served as president of the Forkland PTA when her children attended Forkland School. She loved the Forkland community and was a life member of the Forkland Community Center.   

Madalyn loved people and enjoyed her 20 year career at Hub Frankel as a sales clerk. She loved to watch University of Kentucky Wildcats and during her younger years, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, the outdoors, reading and was an accomplished seamstress.

The highlight of her life was her family. 

Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Bill) Singler of Danville; a son, Cecil (Phyllis) Sheperson of Altus, Okla,; four grandchildren, Travis Hopkins of New Haven, Kristina Sheperson of West Liberty, Laura Elizabeth Singler of Lexington, Scott (Mary) Singler of Annapolis, Md.; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Hazel Overstreet, Jean Overstreet, both of Forkland, and Shirley Sheperson of Danville; and her remaining first cousin, Madge Purdom of Danville. A beloved friend, Rennie Peavley, was her faithful companion.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Paul Overstreet.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Pastor Gerald Hegwood officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Perryville. 

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday and noon-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
