Vernocia K. Neal

Vernocia Kincaid Neal, 95, departed this life on Jan. 28, 2013. 

Born in Barbourville, she was a daughter of the late George and Rose Kincaid. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul Baptist Church in Barbourville. In 1946, she united in membership with First Baptist Church of Danville, Ky.

Vernocia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy C. Neal Sr.; two daughters, Nola Marie Neal and Alberta Neal Cowherd; a granddaughter, Yvette Bedinger Spalding; three sisters, Rebecca Love, Dorothy Potter and Mary Wilson; and three brothers, Joseph, Lewis and Leroy Kincaid.

During her 67 years with the church, she served on the Usher Board, the Missionary Society, M&W Club, Gideon Sunday School Class and was a Vacation Bible School volunteer. She was an auxiliary helper at Ephraim McDowell and member of the Domestic Economy Club.

As the oldest female bowler in the Kentucky USBC, she had bowled with the Sunday Night Couples League, Fumbling Four League, Tuesday Night Kentucky Colonels and, until her death, she was a member of the Tuesday Morning Coffee League. She also was a member of the U.S. Bowling Congress, Lifetime Member of NAACP, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Celestine Chapter No. 9 of Eastern Star, Golden Circle No. 1 and Bethany Guild No. 16 Bluegrass Assembly No. 1.

She leaves three children to cherish her memory, Mary (Calvin) Bedinger, Agnes Joan Bartleson and Roy (Cynthia) Neal Jr.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and a host of extended family and friends.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, 200 W. Walnut St. Burial will be in Rosenwald Cemetery, Barbourville.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the church.
