STANFORD — Virginia Lee Davis, 95, of Ky. 1770, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012.
Born July 25, 1917, in Hazard, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Ida Combs. Along with her husband, Maurice Claude “M.C.” Davis, she ran family-owned groceries and commissaries in Corbin, Harlan and Danville. She was a graduate of Hazard High School and a member of Stanford Baptist Church. Virginia worked as a nurse for Dr. Bailey in Hazard and taught Sunday school for several years at Stanford Baptist Church. Virginia was a lover of her flowers, all animals and anyone in need. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Claude “M.C.” Davis.
Survivors include her two sons, Glenn W. Davis of Stanford and Raymond H. Davis of Lexington; daughters-in-law, Evelyn Davis of Stanford and Diana L. Davis of Lexington; two grandchildren, Allison L. (B. Logan) Culbertson of Versailles and Michael G. Davis of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, Lucy G. Culbertson and Zoe L. Culbertson, both of Versailles; brothers-in-law Dr. Franklin Davis of North Point, Fla., and Kenneth Davis of Prospect, Ky.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Max Hester. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery where she will be reunited forever with her dear husband, Maurice Claude “M.C.” Davis. Pallbearers will be Raymond Davis, Michael Davis, Logan Culbertson and Danny Irvin.
