Recently the website buzzfeed.com ran a story about Fox News contributor Bob Beckel's offensive comments about his lack of concern about rape on college campuses in the country. It was rightfully condemned by many on that site, but many of the site’s viewers then proceeded to associate this view with Republicans and conservatives along with Bob Beckel. One of the reasons is that many did not know Bob Beckel is a progressive Democrat. That fact was not reported in the article on buzzfeed.com.
As a conservative, I am used to the mainstream media jumping for joy anytime a Republican or conservative scandal appears. I am also used to and aware of the fact that when a progressive or Democrat is caught in a scandal, either the story itself is buried or the political affiliation is not mentioned. Glenn Reynolds at instapundit.com calls it the “name that party” game, as when a left wing progressive is caught, the name of the party is never mentioned. If it was a Republican, however, it would have been in the headline.
I expect this from the extreme left media in Washington or New York, but expected better from my local paper. That is why I am surprised at the story of the Lyndon LaRouche booth calling on the impeachment of the president. It mentioned Lyndon LaRouche ran for president many times, but neglected to mention what party he ran under. Nor did it mention what party his followers typically run under. To those who do not know, Lyndon LaRouche is a Democrat, has always run as a Democrat, and his followers run in Democrat primaries.
I am not surprised that dishonest journalists, like those who work for buzzfeed.com, would neglect to mention political affiliation of a fellow leftist, while allowing their readers to blame conservatives for the sick views of the left. I am surprised my local paper would be so dishonest. Actually, I am not surprised, I am appalled.
