What a sad, unfortunate commentary by Linda Porter; another stereotype that Democrats pigeonhole people into so they can pander. I think that independent people vote for Republicans so they can keep their independence. They probably want to support themselves, give their charity monies to whom they want, make their own health care choices, worship the way they want, and even choose how they educate their children in their community.
The lies and misleading news reports and advertising trying to convince people the Republican Party is trying to end all support for those in need have been reprehensible. And now, after all is over and the liars have achieved their goals, conservatives have their job cut out for them.
I will not rehash all the arguments made over the last year. I do think, however, there are still a lot of Americans of all sexes and races who do not want to be pandered to or treated as victims. I do not think that driving through the poorest neighborhoods seeing signs for politicians who keep the poor dependent is a positive thing.
Conservatives and Republicans are fighting an uphill battle educating the public on the benefits of a balanced approach to government support and free enterprise. The schools have been teaching that capitalism is evil and government is all-knowing for over 50 years now. We have a long way to go to debunk that myth. Maybe four years is a start.
