The Centre College softball team split a doubleheader with Spalding on Wednesday at Millennium Park, snapping a five-game losing streak with a 2-0 win in the first game before losing the nightcap 9-4.
Emily Meador hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Centre (9-18) a win in the opener. Meador also pitched for the win, allowing only four hits in a complete-game shutout.
Her homer came after a two-out error extended the inning.
A six-run second inning by Spalding (11-7) doomed the Colonels in the second game. The Pelicans got 14 hits off Centre pitchers Shawnee Shuler, who took the loss, and Emily Landherr.
Molly Ely had two of Centre’s eight hits, a solo home run in the fourth inning and and RBI single in the fifth that pulled the Colonels within 6-4 before Spalding tacked on three runs in the sixth.
Men’s Lacrosse
Connor Stubbs was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference offensive player of the week after scoring 12 goals in two games.
Stubbs, a sophomore, had four goals in a victory over Rhodes on Friday, then tied a school record with eight in a win over Millaps on Sunday. The player of the week selection is the fifth for Centre (9-2) this season and the second for Stubbs.
Women’s Lacrosse
Allison Eisner was named the SCAC defensive player of the week after saving 20 of 26 shots in two weekend games.
Eisner, a freshman, saved four of seven shots after entering the game in a loss to Wooster on Saturday and 16 of 19 shots in a win at Kenyon on Sunday for Centre (11-3).
