Centre Sports: Men's, women's soccer teams earn NCAA tournament berths

The Centre College men’s and women’s soccer teams received at-large bids to their respective NCAA Division III tournaments Monday, and the Centre women will host a set of first- and second-round games.
The Centre women, who made the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year, will host Agnes Scott in a first-round game Saturday night. The Centre men, who are making their first NCAA appearance since 1999, will face Ohio Wesleyan on Friday in Wheaton, Ill.
Both teams earned their way into the NCAA fields despite the fact that their new conference, the Southern Athletic Association, does not yet have an automatic bid.
The women have the best record in school history at 19-1, tied for the regular-season conference championship and won the inaugural SAA tournament. The men are 14-3-3, tied for the regular-season SAA¿championship and lost on penalty kicks in the conference tournament final.
The Centre women will face Agnes Scott, a first-time NCAA participant and the Great South Conference tournament champion, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. That follows a 5 p.m. game between Emory, which knocked the Colonels out of last year’s NCAA tourney, and DePauw, and the winners of Saturday’s two games play at 5 p.m. Sunday at Centre.
The men face Ohio Wesleyan, an at-large team making its 35th NCAA appearance. The winner will face Transylvania or Wheaton on Saturday.
