Golf: Danville golfer Williams falls from lead at Junior PGA Championship
J.B. Williams of Danville fell off the lead Wednesday after shooting 80 in the second round of the Junior PGA Championship at Fort Wayne, Ind.
Williams, the first-round leader after matching the course record with a 65 on Tuesday, was in a three-way tie for 15th place at 1 over par entering today’s third round at Sycamore Hills.
Williams’ father, Marc, said most of his son’s problems came from an errant driver, which led to penalty strokes and difficulty in reaching the greens on the 7,240-yard course.
Williams was eight strokes behind leader Tyler McDaniel of Manchester, who shot 3-under 69 on Wednesday to take a one-stroke lead.
The fields will be cut to the low 30 and ties after the third round today. The final round of the tournament is Friday.
