LANCASTER — Garrard County has turned to a former Admiral as its new head baseball coach.
Danville graduate C.J. Lynn was hired by Garrard after spending last season as an assistant under Danville coach Paul Morse.
“I’m really excited. I’ve always wanted to be a head coach. That’s been my goal since high school,” said Lynn, 25. “There is a lot of young talent at Garrard County, and with a lot of hard work they can improve and hopefully be a good contender for the district and down the road the region may be possible.”
Lynn played four years at Alice Lloyd College, then served as a graduate assistant at the school. He will be teaching social studies at Garrard County Middle School, and Garrard athletics director Kalem Grasham said he brings everything the school was looking for in a new coach.
“He had a decorated career at Danville and a successful tenure at Alice Lloyd. He worked at the Morse Baseball Academy and coached under Paul (Morse) last year,” Grasham said. “Danville’s a top-notch program, and that’s what we strive to be.”
Despite his inexperience, Grasham said Lynn’s youth may actually serve him well.
“He is younger, but he seems mature beyond his years,” he said. “It can be an advantage because of his energy. When you talk baseball, his eyes light up.”
Lynn is also glad to be staying in the area for his first head coaching job.
“It means a lot to get to stay close to home. I’m close to my friends and my family and a lot of people who support me and what I’m doing,” he said. “It means a whole lot to be back home and working in this area. This area is strong in athletics and ability and its desire to do well in athletics.”
