The Danville Christian boys and girls defeated London-based Cumberland Area Home-School Teams on Saturday at Harrodsburg.
The DCA¿boys won 64-34 in their season opener, while the girls improved to 4-0 with a 45-22 victory.
DCA 64, CHAT 34 — Caleb Tarter scored 16 points to lead the Warriors, who shot 39 percent from the field and committed only six turnovers.
“We had a balanced team effort to start our season, scoring well in transition and doing an exceptional job of taking care of the ball. Our schedule will become increasingly challenging,”¿DCA coach Jeremy Tarter said.
Josh Asmus added 10 points for DCA. Zach Tarter had 12 rebounds and Caleb¿Pierson, a 6-2 transfer from Virginia, had 11 boards off the bench.
DCA 45, CHAT¿22 — Kristen Asmus had 10 points for the Warriors, who raced to a 24-4 lead in the first quarter, then used their bench for the rest of the night, even playing fifth- and sixth-graders in the fourth quarter. The DCA starters played only about 10 minutes.
“All of our normal varsity girls did a great job of seeing the entire floor and finding the open girl on offense. We still need to work on our transition patterns, but that is what practice is for,”¿DCA coach Jamie Middleton said. “Those who will normally play varsity did an outstanding job of running our offensive and defensive sets,.”
Shayla Smith had eight points and five steals, while Katherine Raines and Carrie Crawford had three rebounds each and Becca Tarter had four assists.
