LIGHT, a Danville-based team of home-schooled students, finished 2-1 in the DCA Christmas Invitational at Harrodsburg with a pair of wins Saturday, including a victory over local rival and tournament host Danville Christian.

LIGHT defeated Danville Christian 72-60 behind a 31-point performance from Cameron Owens.

Macklin Hamilton added 22 points and Dylan Felix had 12 rebounds for LIGHT (12-5), which held a 41-36 edge on the boards and held on after DCA (5-4) rallied to take the lead in the third quarter.

“We almost blew it in the third quarter, but we came back and kept our composure to win in the last quarter,” LIGHT coach Kevin Hamilton said. “DCA is a very good team. They are very tall and big. I am pleased with our defense and rebounding.”

Owens had six steals and Macklin Hamilton had five assists for the Eagles, who hit 10 of 14 free throws and got key contributions from their bench after falling into foul trouble late in the game.

Zach Tarter and Caleb Tarter scored 17 points each for DCA, which went 1-2 in its tournament. Zach Tarter and Paul Robertson had 12 rebounds each, and Josh Asmus had six assists.

The Warriors made just 12 of 21 free throws and had 20 turnovers.

“Our mishandling of the ball against LIGHT's pressure defense was our downfall. Equally problematic was the fact that we could not find a defensive answer to Hamilton in the first half or Owens in the second,” DCA coach Jeremy Tarter said.

The two teams meet again this Friday.

LIGHT 66, Harvest Christian 56 — Owens scored 25 points and Macklin Hamilton added 17 in LIGHT’s final game in the DCA tourney, a win over South Portsmouth-based Harvest Christian.

Felix had 10 rebounds, Macklin Hamilton had eight steals and David Stoltzfus blocked three shots for the Eagles, who forced 20 turnovers.

“Our defense made the difference,” Kevin Hamilton said.

Macklin Hamilton, Owens and Felix were named to the all-tournament team.

Galilean 52, Danville Christian 43 — DCA closed its tournament run with a loss to Galilean of Liberty.

Zach Tarter had 11 points and Daniel Crall added nine points for the Warriors.

“We competed well the entire game, but were simply punished on the offensive and defensive glass. Josh Asmus did an exceptional job defensively, holding his own against one of the best players in the KCSAA (Gabe Martin),” Jeremy Tarter said.

Jordan Martin had 17 points and Gabe Martin added 14 for Galilean.

DCA shot 49 percent from the field with only six turnovers.

Galilean also held a 47-26 rebounding edge.
