Girls
Boyle places fifth — At Russell Springs, the Boyle County girls golf team placed fifth at the Kentucky Invitational at Lakewood Country Club in Russell Springs.
Rachel Pingleton led the Rebels with an 82, followed by Caroline McDonald (83), Alexis Draut (86), Samantha Stewart (86) and Michaela Jarman (93).
“It was definitely a challenging course.  No one on our team had ever played a round of golf at this course. So, it took a while to get adjusted,”¿Boyle coach Sandy Waters said. “There were lots of mature trees, narrow fairways and blind shots into the greens.”
Henry Clay won the tournament with a 329, Russell County was second (331), followed by Williamsburg (335), Green County (336) and Boyle.
“There were only eight strokes between us and first place. Henry Clay is our main competition for the regional championship,”¿Waters said. “This gave us a good look at how we stack up against them and, in our opinion, we can definitely compete.
“We need to continue to work on our focus on the course and ensuring we make good decisions when in tough situations.”
North Hardin’s Lydia Gumm shot a 1-under par 70 to earn medalist honors, and Pulaski County’s Elsa Moberly placed second with a 73.
