Sophomore goalkeeper Keeley Naylor made a save on a penalty kick with 11 seconds to play Wednesday to help preserve No. 18 Boyle County’s 1-1 tie with No. 15 Woodford County in Versailles.
“This was another hard-fought game for us tonight. It was a war, as it always is when we play Woodford. They’re a very physical team and their speed of play is fantastic,” Boyle coach Brian Deem said.
“I thought the girls did a really good job of holding their own.”
It was a scoreless game at the half then the Rebels (5-1-1) finally scored with 15 minutes to play when Tabitha Evans sent a diagonal pass off a dead ball to Haley Bates for the goal and a 1-0 lead.
It stayed that way until there were 4 minutes to play and Woodford (3-1-2) scored when Naylor made a save off a corner kick, but could not secure the ball to give Woodford another shot.
With 11 seconds to go, Boyle was called for a foul which gave Woodford a penalty kick. But Naylor timed it right and made the save to keep it a 1-1 game.
“Keeley did a fantastic job of keeping patient and was able to secure the ball and secure the tie,” Deem said.
