Prep Soccer: Mercer, Danville boys earn wins
Christian Gateskill-Fuqua had a goal and an assist Saturday to lead the Danville boys soccer team to a 4-1 win over visiting Bourbon County.
"I was again pleased with our effort today,”¿Danville coach Brent Beauman said. “Lots of hustle and our guys that are new to varsity play are really playing nicely.  I am glad we are heading in the right direction going into next week.”
Gateskill-Fuqua opened scoring with an unassisted goal. Shawn Ramos scored on a Cesar Barradas assist, which proved to be the game winner. Hayden Boyd scored on Gateskill-Fuqua’s assist and Carson Coulter closed out scoring for the Admirals (3-2-1) off a pass from Noe Ayala.
Mercer County 2, Woodford County 1 —¿At Versailles, Landon Souder scored a pair of goals as the Titans moved to 4-0-1 on the year with the win over the Yellowjackets.
Souder got his first goal in the 6th minute. In the 75th minute, Souder was fouled in the penalty box by the goalkeeper then converted the penalty kick.
Mercer was outshot 13-12, but held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Woodford had six corner kicks to four for the Titans.
Slade Ransdell had two saves for Mercer.
