Mercer County tied the game late in regulation, then won a shootout for a 2-1 victory over East Jessamine on Thursday at Harrodsburg.
Shannon Murray scored with little time left in the second half to tie the game at 1-all, and Murray, Carli Souder and Erika Kehrt scored in the shootout for Mercer (5-3, 1-1 46th District) after East Jessamine (6-2, 0-1) missed its first shot.
The Titans rallied after East Jessamine scored on a penalty kick early in the second half following a scoreless first half.
“Mercer got its offense together and controlled the rest of the game,” Mercer coach Tony Brown said.
Brown said the defense held fast through a sudden-death overtime period.
The teams play a rematch in their next game Tuesday.
