Prep Soccer: Shannon Murray scores twice as Mercer County blanks Bardstown 2-0
Shannon Murray scored a pair of goals Thursday as the Mercer County girls shut out visiting Bardstown 2-0.
Murray got her first goal early in the first half, then scored again in the second half.
Mercer improved to 9-4; Bardstown fell to 6-1-1.
Scott County 7, Boyle County 0 — At Danville, No. 6 Scott (11-1)¿led 6-0 at halftime in a win over No. 18 Boyle (8-2-1)¿in the Little Caesars Classic at Rebel Stadium.
“We kind of ran into a buzzsaw. We haven’t seen a team with as much speed and physical presence on the field all year long,” Boyle coach Brian Deem said.
Scott scored twice in the first 10 minutes, including a penalty kick goal, and never looked back.
“I think at that point, our youth showed a little bit and I think we got a little shell-shocked,”¿Deem said. “I’m not disappointed in the size of our deficit. Our kids haven’t played a team with speed, they had 11 girls on the field that could flat out run. They deserve their ranking, if not further up.”
Boys
Danville 1, George Rogers Clark 0 — At Danville, Shawn Ramon scored off an assist from Christian Gateskill-Fuqua in the first half and the host Admirals (7-4-2)¿made it stand up to edge the Cardinals (2-6-1).
“This was the type of game we needed. Several times this season and last we have taken the lead then slipped up and allowed a team to comeback on us. It is nice to be able to go ahead and manage the game to a victory,”¿Danville coach Brent Beauman said.
“Our defensive pressure from our forwards and midfielders was much better tonight, this is what we have been preaching and practicing. It's nice to see it in action. Any time you get a shutout your defense has to play well. All in all a great team effort."
