Prep Volleyball: Burgin rebounds to down Anderson County; Boyle wins on senior night
The Burgin volleyball team won its fourth straight match Tuesday, dropping the first set to visiting Anderson County before bouncing back to win 20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-23.
“I have never been more proud of this group of girls. After the first set loss, we were able to regroup and make some adjustments in how we were playing defense. We also cleaned up our passing and started getting strong swings on the ball. The following three sets were the hardest I've seen this team work all year. You could see how badly they wanted this win, and they earned every point to get it,”¿Burgin coach Maggie McKnight said. “I saw some mental toughness on the court.
“Anderson is a strong competitor, and we didn't want to allow them to make any runs on the scoreboard or gain any real momentum. The girls accomplished this by not letting up when we were ahead and not giving up when we were down.”
In the final set, Anderson led 9-12 before Summer Burke served seven straight points for a 16-12 lead. Anderson led 23-22 before Burke served the final two points to clinch the set and match for the Bulldogs (17-10).
“Anderson County gave us an opportunity to see what we were made of, and I like what I saw,”¿McKnight said.
Boyle County 3, Garrard County 1 — At Danville, Lisa Talbott had 12 kills, two digs and two aces to help Boyle top Garrard 25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22 on senior night.
Griffin Blevins has 16 aces, nine kills and four digs, Bailey Fowler had eight aces, Morgan Blevins had five aces and four digs and Amy Woolum had six kills and seven digs. Talbott, Woolum and Morgan Blevins were playing their final home match.
Boyle (11-15) snapped a nine-match losing streak with the win.
