Kentucky recruiting target Andrew Wiggins of Huntington (W.Va.) Prep has done the expected and reclassified to the 2013 recruiting class.
Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford confirmed Thursday that Wiggins and his family had decided he should reclassify and recruiting services immediately elevated him to the No. 1 spot in the 2013 recruiting class.
Wiggins, who will play a game¿Nov. 18 at Scott County¿High School, had narrowed his recruiting choices to Florida State, where his father played, and Kentucky. However, recently he’s also opened his recruitment to North Carolina, Kansas, Ohio State and Syracuse.
The 6-7 Wiggins, who is from Canada, will now be able to enter the 2014 NBA draft — and some NBA scouts indicated he likely would have been a first-round pick now if he was eligible for the draft.
Wiggins has a rare combination of size and scoring ability in a variety of ways, including the ability to finish.
If he picks Kentucky, it would guarantee coach John Calipari not only a fifth straight No. 1 recruiting class, but perhaps the highest rated class ever.
Twin guards Aaron and Andrew Harrison are now ranked third and fourth while forward James Young is ranked 10th. All three are UK commitments. Forward/center Marcus Lee, another UK¿commit, is a top-25 prospect. Kentucky also has a verbal commitment from 6-8 Derek Willis of Bullitt East.
Kentucky is also among the final choices for two more top 10 players — center Julius Randle and forward Aaron Gordon.
