Vaught's Views: Weekly college football-themed radio show resumes tonight
If you like a chance to discuss Kentucky football or basketball, or any local sports, then make sure to listen to WHIR-AM (1230) and WHBN-AM (1420) on Thursday when former UK¿center Dave Hopewell and I resume our college football-oriented talk show.
We will be on from 6 to 7 p.m. each Thursday during the football season to look ahead to upcoming Kentucky¿games as well as the top local sports stories each week.
We will have special guests — former Wildcat quarterback Freddie Maggard will be in studio Aug. 23 and future UK¿Hall of Famer Derek Abney will join us Aug. 30 to discuss Kentucky-Louisville — and an open line to take your calls. It’s a fun way to gauge what UK¿football fans think about the coaching, players, opponents, future and more.
You can also hear the show online at hometownlive.net.
We’ve had a fun two years doing the show and hope this will be an even more informative and entertaining season for all of us.
And if you have a topic you know you would like us to discuss, email me at larry@amnews.com by noon each Thursday and we will try to answer your question.

Danville Drug Company is the new sponsor of the Area MVP that will be announced each Wednesday. High school athletes from each area school are eligible based on their performances the previous week, and one athlete will be honored each week. The first MVP will be named Aug. 22.
Danville Office Equipment will also again honor the Area Scholar-Athlete of the Week beginning Sept. 5 and continuing through June. Sophomore, junior and senior athletes who maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average are eligible for nomination by coaches and athletic directors, and winners will be picked based on GPA, academic awards and extracurricular activities.
A Female and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year will also be chosen and honored by Danville Office Equipment in June.

Finally, if you have a son or daughter playing high school sports, encourage the head coach to report results for publication. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find coaches who do that, and that costs deserving student-athletes recognition.
