Nick Serey and Kyle Lange combined to allow only three hits and Cole Phillips drove in three runs Tuesday as Danville defeated Knox Central 9-2 in its season opener at Barbourville.
Danville (1-0) cranked out 14 hits, more than enough to support Serey and Lange, who didn’t allow Knox Central (1-2) an earned run between them.
Serey allowed two unearned runs in the first inning, when the Admirals committed both of their errors, and gave up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.
Lange, making his first pitching appearance at any level, earned a save after throwing three hitless innings with six strikeouts and one walk.
“Both guys pitched really well,” Danville coach Paul Morse said. “It was a good way to start the season, to get off in the win column.”
Phillips, Will Graham, J.B. Williams, Ben Mahan and Robert Rowland had two hits each for the Admirals. Graham drove in two runs, and Williams and Mahan each had a double.
