Hannah Harris and Chelsea Gill combined for 14 of the Boyle County girls’ 19 points in the fourth quarter to help Boyle defeat Casey County 56-49 Tuesday night at Rebel Arena.
Harris finished with 18 points and Gill had 17 points for Boyle (12-11). Gill had eight free throws and Harris had four in the fourth quarter.
Harris also had a layup, Marlee Smith had a three-point play and Cami Holton scored from the paint down the stretch for Boyle, which had seen a 10-point halftime lead cut in half by the start of the fourth quarter.
“We did get the pace back up in the fourth quarter after they came out and played really well in the third,” Boyle assistant coach Chad Mayes said.
Tiara Cochran had 14 points and Sarah Beard added 11 for Casey (10-12), which has lost three straight games. Beard hit three 3-point shots.
Boyle led 28-18 at halftime after holding Casey to seven points in the second quarter.
Danville 76, Bardstown 38 — At Danville, Laken Grey topped her career high for the second-straight game, scoring 23 points as Danville (15-7) pounded visiting Bardstown (5-20).
Kasey Young scored 19 points and Essence Grey added 18 for Danville, which led 38-18 at the half and 50-32 after three quarters.
“Laken’s really playing well last night. I’m pleased with her,” Danville coach Judie Mason said. “Tonight was one of those games stuck in the middle of (district games with) Boyle, Garrard and Lincoln (counties). I knew we were going to be a little flat tonight, but I thought we played hard. And I’m not going to say anything as long as they played hard.”
Danville put up 29 more shots than Bardstown), going 33 of 72 from the floor, 3 for 19 from 3-point range and 13 of 21 at the foul line. The Tigers were 13 of 43 from the floor and 8 of 14 at the line.
Burgin 56, West Jessamine 49, OT — At Burgin, Burgin (13-10, 3-2 46th District) fought off West Jessamine (4-16, 0-6) in overtime for its fifth win in seven games.
St. Francis 30, Kentucky School for the Deaf 14 — At Louisville, Jade Bell scored 20 points for KSD (0-20), which kept pace with St. Francis (2-13) in the first half before falling behind in the second.
Boys
Campbellsville 53, Burgin 49 — At Burgin, Burgin (8-13) stayed within striking range of Campbellsville (11-13) throughout the fourth quarter but was unable to go in front.
The Bulldogs cut a 12-point deficit to three points in the last two minutes of the third quarter and stayed within three points or less for most of the fourth quarter. They were within 48-47 with 1:00 to play but were forced to foul, and A.J. Vaught hit one of two free throws and Bradley Bates hit four straight shots at the line to seal the Eagles’ win.
Alex Beckerson led Burgin with 27 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. John Price and Nick Beckerson had five rebounds each, Nick Beckerson blocked three shots and Mason Myers had four assists.
The Bulldogs shot 44 percent (20 for 45) from the field and outrebounded Campbellsville 31-25 but made only seven of 15 free throws. and had 17 turnovers.
Danville Christian 75, Saline Christian 58 — At Somerset, Caleb Tarter scored 22 points and Landon Sears added 20 to help DCA win on the road.
Sears came off the bench to go 10 for 15 from the field, making several clutch baskets for the Warriors, who They led by only four points when the fourth quarter began before outscoring Saline 20-7 after Saline was forced to switch to a man-to-man defense.
“This was a good win for DCA in what is positively the hardest place in the KCSAA to play,” DCA coach Jeremy Tarter said.
Zach Tarter had 12 rebounds, Paul Robertson had 11 rebounds and Josh Asmus had six assists for DCA.
The Warriors shot 52 percent (34 for 65) from the field.
St. Francis 61, Kentucky School for the Deaf 22 — At Danville, Adam Turner had 10 points and eight rebounds for KSD (5-18) in its loss to St. Francis (5-14).
The Colonels were without leading scorer Dillon Maynard and Jeffrey Couch, who missed the game due to injuries. They committed 35 turnovers and hit only nine of 23 shots from the field.
