The Danville Christian Academy boys lost twice Friday and were eliminated from the Kentucky Christian Schools Athletic Association state tournament at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington.
In the quarterfinals, DCA fell to No. 2 seed Bluegrass United 67-38, then lost to Pendleton Christian 50-42 in an elimination game.
“The tournament was a good opportunity for our team to learn what we must do to be successful at the highest level of the KCSAA,” DCA coach Jeremy Tarter said. “We finished the season 19-9 and have our entire team returning. DCA basketball has improved tremendously thanks to this core. It's up to the players to decide how much they want to work in the off-season to improve and ultimately be competitive at this level.”
Bluegrass United jumped on the Warriors early, leading 20-8 after the first quarter and 35-13 at the half.
“They took the lead early by aggressive play on both ends of the floor with consistent outside shooting and never let up,” Tarter said. “Our guys unfortunately were somewhat shell-shocked and never appeared to feel like they could play with this talented team.”
Daniel Crall had nine points to lead DCA and Zach Tarter had eight points and seven assists. The Warriors were 14 of 48 shooting and mae 10 of 17 free throws.
In the loss to Pendleton, Crall had 13 points and five rebounds, Paul Robertson scored 10 points and Zach Tarter had six rebounds and three steals.
Pendleton led 12-11 after a quarter, but stretched that to a 30-17 lead by halftime.
“We matched up well and handled Pendleton's signature press nicely in the first quarter. They called off the press and we then unfortunately failed to execute in our half court sets,” Tarter said. “I was proud of the fact that our team sustained its effort until the final seconds of the game.”
DCA was 17 of 42 from the floor and made 4 of 10 at the foul line.
