Prep Basketball: Lincoln's Fox, Boyle's Edwards honored by region's girls coaches

Emily Fox of Lincoln County and Greg Edwards of Boyle County have been voted the 12th Region girls player and coach of the year by the 12th Region Girls Basketball Coaches Association.

Fox averaged 16.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game and shot 78.1 percent at the free-throw line for Lincoln, which went 27-6 and won its second consecutive 12th Region championship.

Edwards led Boyle to an 18-14 record, its first winning season and best record since 2009. The Rebels reached the regional semifinals for the first time since 2001.

Cassidy Martin of Mercer County and Sydney Harris of Lincoln were voted to the first team, and six other players from area schools were honored on the second or third teams.

Edwards and the honored players will be recognized Friday at the regional coaches’ banquet.

Many of the players honored will also participate in the 12th Region vs. 13th Region all-star games Saturday at Asbury University in Wilmore. The junior game between teams from the two regions is at 1 p.m.; the senior game is at 2:30.
