Prep Golf: Pingleton, Boyle girls win at Rowan invitational

It’s been a strong start to the season for the Boyle County girls golf team.
Rachel Pingleton fired a 74 Tuesday to earn medalist honors and lead the Rebels to the team title in the Rowan County Invitational at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead.
Boyle finished with a team score of 345 to win the nine-team tournament. Scott County (350) was second, followed by Mason County (354) and Rockcastle County (355).
“We came in second last year to Mason County, so this was an especially nice win,” said Boyle coach Sandy Waters, whose squad was coming off a second-place finish last weekend at the Nelson County Invitational.
Caroline McDonald shot an 83 for Boyle, Michaela Jarman and Samantha Stewart each shot 94s and Brianna Cornett had a 103 for the Rebels.

At London, Spencer McKinney shot 74 to place third and help Danville to a sixth-place finish at the North Laurel Invitational. Andrew McKinney had a 78, Jared Southerland shot 90 and Nick Serey shot 98 for Danville, which finished at 340.
South Warren’s Jared Brown won medalist’s honors with a 2-under 70, and his team won the team title with a 315.
