Boyle County’s Lucas McCain had the highest finish for any area wrestler this weekend, placing eighth at 113 pounds at the state wrestling championships at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
McCain went 3-3 over the weekend with a pin. He advanced to the quarterfinals before losing, then was pinned by Trigg County’s Jerimiah Kline in 4 minutes, 15 seconds in the seventh-place match.
Danville’s Daniel Lannum won his first two matches at 126 pounds and also advanced to the quarterfinals before losing his next two matches, falling in the fourth round of the consolation matches in a 4-3 loss to St. Xavier’s Nathan Haddad to finish up 2-2.
For Danville, Zach Phillips (113)¿went 3-2, falling to McCain in the fourth round of consolation matches 7-3. Michael Kuchenbrod (120) went 1-2 and Carson Coulter (132) went 0-2.
For Boyle, Noah Conley (145) went 1-2, Dalin Tritapoe (160) finished 1-2, Connor Darland (195) was 0-2 and Austin Muntz (220) was 0-2.
