Prep Wrestling: Boyle County's Lucas McCain wins regional title at 113 pounds

Boyle County’s Lucas McCain went 3-0 this weekend and scored an 8-6 win over Danville’s Zach Phillips in the final of the 113 pound weight class Saturday at the Region 2 Championships at John Hardin.

Danville is sending four wrestlers to state, and two more will go as alternates. Boyle County is sending five wrestlers to state along with one alternate.

Aside from Phillips, who went 2-1, Danville’s Daniel Lannum (126) took second after dropping a 3-2 decision to North Hardin’s Trea Willis to go 2-1 in the tournament.

Finishing fourth for Danville was Michael Kuchenbrod (120) and Carson Coulter (132).

Kuchenbrod lost by injury default in his third-pace match to finish 2-2, while Coulter lost 6-5 to Jonathan Little of North Hardin in his final and went 2-2 this weekend.

Finishing in fifth place and a slot as an alternate to next week’s state tournament in Frankfort, J.J. Clark (160) pinned Zach Phillips of North Hardin in 3 minutes 23 seconds to finish 2-2. Elliott Porter (285) earned the Admirals’ other fifth place spot with his 8-5 win over LaRue County’s Nathan Bell to go 2-2 at the regional.

Also for Boyle County, Dalin Tritapoe earned a runner-up finish at 160 pounds, falling to Jared Whitlock of LaRue in their championship match to finish the tournament 2-1.

Austin Muntz earned a third-place finish by pinning Barren County’s Wesley Kinslow in the third round of their 220-pound third-place match and finish 3-2.

Connor Darland (195) placed fourth, falling to Charles Saling of Central Hardin in their third-place final and going 2-2 over the weekend. Josh Robbins (126) took fourth with his loss to LaRue’s Tanner Mouser in the third place match and finished 2-2.

Noah Conley (145) finished fifth after losing 6-1 to Barren County’s Jonathan Franco to go 2-2 in the tournament.

LaRue won the team title, followed by Central Hardin and John Hardin. Boyle finished sixth and the Admirals were seventh as a team.
