Prep Wrestling: Danville's Rhodes Bell signs to wrestle at Lindsey Wilson
It was a tough choice, but wrestling in college turned out to be the best choice for Rhodes Bell.
The Danville senior signed with Lindsey Wilson on Monday, and said it was hard to pick wrestling over baseball.
“I really like the physical side of it, and I feel I have a lot more growing to do in wrestling,”¿Bell said. “And I had quite a bit of success in the time I wrestled. I feel I can grow a lot more as a wrestler than I could in baseball.”
Bell thought he would actually play baseball in college before deciding on wrestling, and said he looked at Shawnee State and Lincoln Memorial University.
“It was a really tough decision. I would liked to have signed a little earlier,” he said. “It was a little stressful waiting this long.”
Bell capped off his high school career going 6-2 and placing fourth at the state meet at 170 pounds, and he placed fifth at 160 pounds as a junior.
He chose Lindsey Wilson over Campbellsville.
“I really liked Campbellsville, but the difference was I really liked the coach (Corey Ruff) at Lindsey Wilson. I think I could have gotten a better offer from Campbellsville, but Lindsey Wilson is a new program, only three years old. I think I may have a chance to come in and start,”¿Bell said. “I’m going to do summer wrestling instead of summer baseball this year.”
