The restaurant chain known for its ButterBurgers and frozen custard will soon delight the palates of Jessamine Countians as Culver’s is set to open in March 2013, owner and county resident Mary Struckhoff said.
Culver’s mantra is “Welcome to delicious,” and Struckhoff said it’s for good reason.
“We actually cook to order,” she said. “As soon as a guest comes in and orders, we make their food at that point in time. You can order anything you want and any way you want it, and that’s how we will cook it.”
Another thing that sets Culver’s apart from other quick-service restaurants is its customer service, Struckhoff said.
“We don’t serve at the counter,” she said. “Our guests get their order number and they go and sit down and we bring the food to them.”
The Culver’s menu is varied.
“Our menu is quite extensive, which creates some operational challenges,” Struckhoff said. “We have everything from our ButterBurger to our fried chicken to just about any sandwich you can imagine. We also have green beans, mashed potatoes and cole slaw, (and) we have our frozen custard, which is one of our signature items.”
The restaurant will employ upward of 80 people, Struckhoff said.
“It just depends on how many will be full-time and how many will be part-time,” she said. “We’ve had a wonderful response as we’ve had more than 100 applications already, and we haven’t even done any advertising. All of our applications have been coming online through the Culver’s website.”
Struckhoff estimated 95 percent of the applications already received are from Jessamine County residents. She also said that word is getting around about the quality of Culver’s.
“We want to be the quick-service restaurant of choice in Nicholasville, and we want to be the employer of choice in Nicholasville,” she said.
Besides high-quality food, Struckhoff said Culver’s has an excellent tradition of serving its community in other ways.
“Their involvement in the community, and throughout my training, that was one thing that was emphasized, and quite frankly, one of the reasons why I chose Culver’s was because of how involved they want you to be in the community,” Struckhoff said. “I’m a Jessamine County resident, and all of that was important to me.”
The 42,000-square-foot restaurant, located at 961 N. Main St., will seat nearly 100 people and offer drive-through service.
The Nicholasville location will be the 11th Culver’s in Kentucky, and Struckhoff said there is already a solid following in Central Kentucky.
“There are currently two in the Lexington area and one in Richmond,” she said. “There are approximately 470 stores, primarily in the upper midwest, but we are moving south. We are not the furthest south; there are some in Tennessee, and we’re looking to expand to Florida.”
The original Culver’s opened in July 1984 in Sauk City, Wis. For more information on Culver’s, visit www.culvers.com.
