Jessamine Countians now have a new place in town where they can go to pump some iron. Fitness Plus II, located in Bellerive Plaza, about a mile from Man O’ War Boulevard, hosted its official grand opening Monday.
The new business is owned by Josh Sato, and the location is the first independent licensed branch of Fitness Plus. The company was founded by Sheila Kalas in 1995 and is recognized as Lexington’s longest-standing personal training company. Fitness Plus is more than just a gym; it’s a personal training studio that focuses on wellness.
Fitness Plus offers personal training and other wellness services, such as massage, flexibility training, yoga and Pilates. Each service is a one-on-one basis, and there are no membership fees, contracts or pre-paid packages. Clients of Fitness Plus and Fitness Plus II have unlimited access to the cardio workout area at no additional charge between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. six days per week.
“This is just what I have always wanted to do with my career: offering the highest quality of wellness service to clients in a non-threatening environment,” Sato said in a news release. “Everyone’s body is completely different, and the key to success through personal training is finding a professional who will take the time to individualize a program for each specific client. This is what clients can expect at Fitness Plus.”
Fitness Plus has another location on North Ashland Avenue in Lexington and a satellite facility in Thoroughbred Square in downtown Versailles. The location near the Jessamine County/Fayette County line is the newest addition.
The biggest difference between Sato’s fitness center and other gyms is the “one-on-one environment” it offers with the personal trainers, Sato said at the grand opening ceremony. The business has three other trainers who will work at the center, all of whom have been trained and certified in exercise science. The trainers all have the qualifications and experience to handle special physical conditions, including injuries and specialized sports training.
Fitness Plus II is only a 2,000-square-foot building, but Sato said it’s part of the reason he believes people will like being a client there.
“We’re about 2,000 square feet, and you compare that to some of these 35,000-square-foot gyms in Lexington ... you’re just going to get a more intimate, less threatening environment here,” Sato said to the grand-opening guests.
