— The Jessamine County Health Department (JCHD) is offering a new session of “Strong Women,” a free 10-week moderate intensity exercise program for women aged 50 and over, that began Jan. 22. Strong Women is designed to improve the health and well-being of middle-aged and older women by building strong bones and muscles and increasing balance and flexibility. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the Jessamine County Health Department, 210 E. Walnut St. in Nicholasville. UPCOMING EVENTS

— The Jessamine County Historical Society will host its monthly meeting Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Yvonne Giles, and she will speak on researching African-American genealogy. The JCHS is located at 216 N. Main St., Nicholasville.

— The Jessamine County YMCA will offer School Spirit basketball, cheerleading, tae kwon do, guitar, drum lessons, swim lessons and more. Register your child for the winter sessions by calling 859-885-5013 or stopping by the office located at 220 E. Maple St. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host “Road Scholar Adventures” at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 27.

— Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, located at 100 Veterans Drive in Wilmore, is seeking volunteers to help in many areas of the facility. Areas include visiting with residents, working in the gift shop or craft room, providing general office assistance, assisting residents with activities, reading to residents and escorting residents to appointments.
