FRIDAY
— The Gospel on the Green concert series will feature Chris Gregory and New Journey the Kentucky Girls. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Green in Wilmore. Tables and chairs will be provided, or you may bring your own. Local food vendors will be on hand to sell their fare. Please bring a canned food item to donate to the local food pantry or pet food for the county’s new animal shelter.
SATURDAY
— A free meal is provided by Manna Ministries each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is a restaurant-quality meal served at 303 W. Maple St. in the community center of Nicholasville United Methodist Church. The meal is open to the public for anyone in need. Takeout meals are available after 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome and can contact the office at 859-885-4481.
— The Wilmore Farmers Market is now open for the 2012 season. Fresh produce and baked goods will be available each Saturday starting at 8 a.m. The market will be open rain or shine until 1 p.m. or until that week’s goods are sold out. The market is located in the city-hall parking lot.
— Join the Camp Nelson staff for a public archaeological “dig” July 7. Be a part of the continued research and history of Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park in these supervised “digs” led by Dr. Stephen McBride, director of interpretation at Camp Nelson. Come for the 9 a.m.-to-noon session or the 1-4 p.m. session. Open to adults and children 10 years old and older. Call Peggy McClintock at 859-881-5716 to reserve your spot. Space is limited to 15 people. Cost is $4 per person.
— The Stonebridge summer Saturday-night concert series will feature the Reel World String Band. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Green in Wilmore. SUNDAY
— Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, located at 926 S. Main St., offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. Saint Athanasius distributes this bread, supplied by Panera Bread, every Sunday from 1-2 p.m. on the porch of the South Main Street location.
MONDAY
— The Jessamine County Senior Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and welcomes people 60 years of age and older. The center has a fully equipped exercise room and a thrift shop. The seniors meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Activities are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bus service and a hot lunch are available on a donation basis. For more information, call 859-885-9102.
— The Jessamine County Public Library will host summer story time for little ones at 10:30 a.m.
— Toyota on Nicholasville will host an AARP driver-safety class July 9 from 1-5 p.m. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. To register, call 859-887-4200.
TUESDAY
— The TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss support group meets from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Creekside Senior Apartments, 407 N. 2nd St. in Nicholasville. For cost and more information, contact Donald Wither at 859-312-7455.
— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a body-recall class each Tuesday and Thursday during July.
— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host hymn time Tuesday, July 10, at 1:15 p.m.
— The Jessamine County Ministerial Association will meet at noon July 10 at Bethany Christian Church, located at 1360 Bethany Road, Nicholasville. Jessamine County pastors, ministers and chaplains are invited to attend this luncheon. Reservations are not required but are appreciated.
