County calendar for June 14

THURSDAY

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host movie night at 6 p.m. This week’s movie is “Iron Lady.”

— The Jessamine County Health Department will host its 2012 Rabies Clinic from from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 14, at Wilmore Elementary School; and 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 16, at the Jessamine County Fairgrounds.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host a virtual field trip — Growing up wild baby animals — from 2-3 p.m.

FRIDAY

— The Republican Party of Jessamine County will host a candidate potluck event from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at City-County Park’s Blue Building. The event is free. U.S. congressional candidate Andy Barr (or a campaign representative), congressman Brett Guthrie (or a representative), state representative candidate Matt Lockett and local city-commissioner candidates are scheduled to appear.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host Art Alive: Elementary Program from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host Art Alive: Teen and Adult Program from 2-4 p.m.

SATURDAY

— A free meal is provided by Manna Ministries each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is a restaurant-quality meal served at 303 W. Maple St. in the community center of Nicholasville United Methodist Church. The meal is open to the public for anyone in need. Takeout meals are available after 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome and can contact the office at 859-885-4481.

— The Wilmore Farmers Market is now open for the 2012 season. Fresh produce and baked goods will be available each Saturday starting at 8 a.m. The market will be open rain or shine until 1 p.m., or until that week’s goods are sold out. The market is located in the city-hall parking lot.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host Waggin’ Tales from 1-3 p.m.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host Hoola-Hoop Workshop at 2 p.m.

— A father and son basketball tournament will be held at East Jessamine High School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tourney is for fathers, sons, men and boys. For more information, call 859-553-1319.

SUNDAY

— Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, located at 926 S. Main St., offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. Saint Athanasius distributes this bread, supplied by Panera Bread, every Sunday from 1-2 p.m. on the porch of the South Main Street location.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host a plant exchange table from 1-5 p.m.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host an indoor drive-in movie at 2 p.m. This week’s movie is “TinTin.”

MONDAY

— The Jessamine County Senior Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and welcomes people 60 years of age and older. The center has a fully equipped exercise room and a thrift shop. The seniors meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Activities are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bus service and a hot lunch are available on a donation basis. For more information, call 859-885-9102.
