County calendar for March 14

THURSDAY

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host movie night March 14 at 6 p.m. This week’s film will be “Beast of the Southern Wild.”

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host “Lunch and Learn: Hobby Resources” from noon to 1 p.m.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host anime and manga club from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

FRIDAY

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host “Jump and Jive” at 10:30 a.m.

— “Family Fun and Fabulous Eats” will be held March 15 at the Jessamine County Extension Office from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event provides information on easy ways for families to enjoy tasty, nutritious meals and treats together. — High-school freshmen, sophomores and juniors can build their business and entrepreneurial skills at The Center for Rural Development’s 2013 Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute. — The Jessamine County Public Library will host “Teen Tech Week — music sharing” from 4:45-5:45 p.m.

SATURDAY

— A free meal is provided by Manna Ministries each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is a restaurant-quality meal served at 303 W. Maple St. in the community center of Nicholasville United Methodist Church. The meal is open to the public for anyone in need. Takeout meals are available after 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome and can contact the office at 859-885-4481.

— Wilmore Free Methodist Church will host “The Truth Project,” a 12-week Bible study for high-school age through adults on Saturdays beginning Feb. 2 from 8-9:30 a.m. The study will help answer worldview questions and bring meaning and understanding to Christians. — The Jessamine County Public Library will host a Wood-Carvers’ Guild open meeting from 10 a.m. to noon.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host a crafty-teen workshop from 1-2:30 p.m.

SUNDAY

— Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, located at 926 S. Main St., offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. Saint Athanasius distributes this bread, supplied by Panera Bread, every Sunday from 1-2 p.m. on the porch of the South Main Street location.

MONDAY

— The Jessamine County Senior Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and welcomes people 60 years of age and older. The center has a fully equipped exercise room and a thrift shop. The seniors meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Activities are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bus service and a hot lunch are available on a donation basis. For more information, call 859-885-9102.

— Providence Christian Church, located at 101 Providence Way, will host a Bodies in Motion low-impact exercise class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-11 a.m.

TUESDAY

— The Jessamine County Health Department (JCHD) is offering a new session of “Strong Women,” a free 10-week moderate intensity exercise program for women aged 50 and over, that began Jan. 22. Strong Women is designed to improve the health and well-being of middle-aged and older women by building strong bones and muscles and increasing balance and flexibility. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the Jessamine County Health Department, 210 E. Walnut St. in Nicholasville. — The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host movie night at 6 p.m. March 28. That week’s movie is “The Robe.”

— The Jessamine County YMCA will offer School Spirit basketball, cheerleading, tae kwon do, guitar, drum lessons, swim lessons and more. — Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, located at 100 Veterans Drive in Wilmore, is seeking volunteers to help in many areas of the facility. Areas include visiting with residents, working in the gift shop or craft room, providing general office assistance, assisting residents with activities, reading to residents and escorting residents to appointments. — The Jessamine County Cancer Buddies group would like to extend an invitation to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer and all the survivors of it.
