County calendar for Sept. 15

THURSDAY

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Wilmore “Write People” each Thursday in September at 1:30 p.m.

— The Jessamine County Public Library hosts family game night from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15. Registration is required; for details, visit www.jesspublib.org or call 859-885-3523.

— The Jessamine County Antique Farm Equipment Show will take place Sept. 15-18 at the Jessamine County Fairgrounds. There is no gate fee, and food concessions and crafts will be sold. The event will feature tractors of all kinds and antique farm machinery. For more information, call 859-227-7665.

— Volunteers are needed for the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center. Training will be Sept. 17 and 24. BRCC serves Jessamine, Mercer, Boyle, Garrard and Lincoln counties. FRIDAY

— The Jessamine County Senior Center will offer blood-pressure checks every third Friday of each month from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

— The Jessamine County Public Library hosts “Jump and Jive” Friday, Sept. 16, at 10:30 a.m. The event for children 0-5 years old features story-time songs and rhymes. For more information, call 859-885-3523.

SATURDAY

— The Rock Fence Park free concert series hosts Bill Hall and Copperstone on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.

— The Jessamine County Farmers Market will open in the Wilmore City Hall parking lot Saturday at 8 a.m.

— A free meal is provided by Manna Ministries each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is a restaurant-quality meal served at 303 W. Maple St. in the community center of Nicholasville United Methodist Church. The meal is open to the public for anyone in need. Takeout meals are available after 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome and can contact the office at 885-4481.

— Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church, located on River Road, will host its annual Pollard Day community gathering from 4-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. There will be food, gospel music and fellowship. In order to be judged in the pie contest, all pies must be entered by 4 p.m. Everyone is invited.

— The Jessamine County Public Library hosts “Driveway to 5K — Getting Started” Saturday, Sept. 17, at 9 a.m. The event for ages 12 to adult will help runners of all experience levels run 3.1 miles with nine weeks of training. — The Jessamine County Public Library hosts “Waggin’ Tales” Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1-3 p.m. for students from kindergarten to fifth grade. The program aims to improve literacy skills of children with the assistance of registered canine reading companions. Registration is required. SUNDAY

— St. Athanasius Orthodox Church, located at 926 S. Main St. (next to the Prescription Pad), offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. St. Athanasius distributes this bread, generously supplied by Panera, every Sunday from 1-2 p.m. on the porch of the South Main Street location.
