County calendar for Sept. 27

THURSDAY

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Memory Banking each Thursday in September at 1:15 p.m.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host the “Body Recall: Fitness for Life” program each Tuesday and Thursday of September at 11 a.m.

— The Jessamine County Historical Society will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27. The guest speaker will be Welch Cassity, who will speak about growing up in Nicholasville and Jessamine County. The society is located at 216 N. Main St.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Asbury University Masterworks Series Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host movie night Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. That week’s movie will be “Madame X.”

— Jessamine County EMS provides CPR training to the public at a nominal fee on the fourth Saturday of September. To register, call 859-887-2987 or register online at www.jcems911.com.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host Facebook for grownups from 2-4 p.m.

FRIDAY

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host “Jump and Jive” at 10:30 a.m.

SATURDAY

— A free meal is provided by Manna Ministries each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is a restaurant-quality meal served at 303 W. Maple St. in the community center of Nicholasville United Methodist Church. The meal is open to the public for anyone in need. Takeout meals are available after 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome and can contact the office at 859-885-4481.

— The Wilmore Farmers Market is open for the 2012 season. Fresh produce and baked goods will be available each Saturday starting at 8 a.m. The market will be open rain or shine until 1 p.m. or until that week’s goods are sold out. The market is located in the city-hall parking lot.

— The Jessamine County YMCA will host a youthfest for children in the fifth through 12th grade on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 12:30-5 p.m. The YMCA is located at 220 E. Maple St.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host Waggin Tales from 1-3 p.m.

SUNDAY

— Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, located at 926 S. Main St., offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. Saint Athanasius distributes this bread, supplied by Panera Bread, every Sunday from 1-2 p.m. on the porch of the South Main Street location.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host “Java and Jive” with free fair-trade organic coffees from 1-4 p.m.

— Wilmore Free Methodist Church will host a book discussion Sept. 30 at 9:40 a.m. The featured book will be “Bad Religion: How We Became a Nation of Heretics” by Ross Douthat. David Bauer and Rick Boyd of Asbury Theological Seminary are the facilitators and Daryl Diddle  and John Oswalt will lead the discussion. The church is located at 1200 Lexington Road.
