Richard and Marlene Schlenther of Nicholasville recently observed their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married in Girard, Ill., on Feb. 4, 1962. They are the parents of three sons, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The couple will be vacationing with their children this summer to celebrate.
Richard graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and practiced pharmacy for 50 years. He received a master-of-divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1991.
Marlene graduated from Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis as a registered nurse. She worked at Central Baptist Hospital, Thomson-Hood Veterans Center and Asbury College’s student-health department. This past year, she was presented with a medal commemorating 50 years of nursing service.
The couple served on the mission field in Kenya, East Africa, with World Medical Mission.
