The Jessamine County Board of Education took pause at a meeting Monday to recognize 21 of its employees who retired during the 2011-2012 school year.
Classified employees retiring and their years of service were:
• Garnet Coconaugher, Rosenwald-Dunbar custodian, after 12 years of service, all in Jessamine County.
• Terry Ferguson, bus driver, after five years of service in Jessamine County.
• Carolyn Hoover, Nicholasville Elementary head custodian, after 24 years of service, 21 in Jessamine County.
• Robin Jordan, West Jessamine High library instructional assistant, after 25 years of service, all in Jessamine County.
• Bonnie Land, bus monitor, after nine years of service.
• Sandra Martin, central-office secretary, after 38 years of service, 20 in Jessamine County.
• Karen Reynolds, Jessamine Early Learning Village secretary, after 36 years of service, 12 in Jessamine County.
• Lynn Thomas, Warner Elementary instructional assistant, after 26 years of service, all in Jessamine County.
• Sue Walters, bus monitor, after 27 years of service, 15 in Jessamine County.
• Peggy Alcorn, JELV instructional assistant, after 21 years of service, 14 in Jessamine County.

• Paul Hamann, central-office chief operations officer, after 38 years of service, 37 in Jessamine County.
• Donna Isaacs, JELV kindergarten teacher, after 37 years of service, 10 in Jessamine County.
• Melanie Ladd, Brookside Elementary primary teacher, after 24 years of service, all in Jessamine County.
• Gary Martin, West Jessamine Middle social-studies teacher, after 28 years of service, all in Jessamine County.
• Sherry Maxwell, West Jessamine Middle special-education teacher, after 27 years of service, 22 in Jessamine County.
• Christine O’Rear, East Jessamine High math teacher, after 25 years of service, 15 in Jessamine County.
• Judy Owens, JELV special-education teacher, after 30 years of service, 18 in Jessamine County.
• Dickie Porter, Nicholasville Elementary special-education speech teacher, after 24 years of service, 20 in Jessamine County.
• Connie Royse, Nicholasville Elementary intermediate teacher, after 27 years of service, 26 in Jessamine County.
• Anne Weldon, West Jessamine High English teacher, after 24 years of service, 12 in Jessamine County.
• Charlene Williams, central-office director of curriculum, after 30 years of service, 26 in Jessamine County.
East High calendar
The board approved a change to the East Jessamine High School calendar at the board meeting. All freshmen as well as sophomores participating in Project 225 will attend their first day of school Tuesday, Aug. 14, and not come to school Wednesday, Aug. 15. Seniors, juniors and the remaining sophomores will attend their first day of school Wednesday, Aug. 15; all students will be in school Thursday, Aug. 16.
The school had a similar plan last year; superintendent Lu Young told the board Monday that school staff reported very favorable feedback about last year’s first day for freshmen.
Also at the board meeting, the board approved:
• a change order of $17,555.80 for the removal of asbestos from Nicholasville Elementary School during the renovation project.
• a change order for the new elementary school giving a credit of $361.99 back to the board for excess materials.
