Nicholasville police arrested and charged three Lexington residents with criminal mischief in an alleged robbery attempt outside the KOI Auto Parts on Main Street in Nicholasville early Monday morning.
According to the citations, patrol officers responded to a robbery call around 2:30 a.m. at 1038 N. Main St. and encountered two suspects in dark clothing with crowbars trying to break into the soda machine and “possibly the building” on the northwest side of the business.
When officers arrived and declared their presence, two of the subjects fled on foot toward Walmart with officers in pursuit.
When they fled, they allegedly abandoned their burglary tools, which were recovered by police.
Officers pursued the two male subjects into the parking lot and found them hiding together in a portable toliet 15 minutes later.
Jeremy J. Young, 22, and Marcus Anderson, 20, were arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools and second-degree fleeing or evading police.
Anderson was also charged with possession of marijuana after police searched him.
A white Ford Explorer that was parked in front of KOI also fled the scene when officers arrived, the police report states.
The vehicle was found around 3:30 a.m. at the Speedway gas station on North Main, where the third suspect and alleged driver, Keyosha T. Conway, was arrested.
Conway, 21, was mirandized and told police they were at KOI because her boyfriend and his accomplice wanted a “lick,” the report states.
Police state they also found a cellophane bag of Xanax, a baggie of marijuana and a large amount of cash in $1 bills on Conway.
In the SUV, officers recovered “other paraphernalia” and tools used to cause severe damage to the soda machine along with loose change in the front seat.
Conway was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, fleeing or evading police, third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
KOI Auto Parts store manager Robby Parks said Monday there was “very expensive damage” done to the brand-new soda machine but that there was no damage to entry points of the business that he had noticed.
“From what I gather, the police were driving by and caught them in the act,” Parks said. “The alarm didn’t even go off, so I don’t know if they were trying to break into the building or not. I can’t say at this point what we’ll pursue as far as charges go either.”
Currently, the suspects are housed in the Jessamine County Detention Center on $1,000 full-cash bonds and scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. April 16.
