Jessamine County District 1 constable Chauncey Tudor thought he was simply going to serve a warrant the night of Dec. 20. Instead of serving a warrant, Tudor stumbled upon a Nicholasville man with heroin in a house he wasn’t supposed to be in.
“I went in to serve a warrant, and I saw the guys through the window,” Tudor said. “It was also a burglary, too. They got charged with second-degree burglary because they wasn’t even supposed to be in that house.”
The arrest occurred at 202 Laurel Lane, Apartment A, near the Nicholasville post office and Jessamine County Public Library.
Jeffery Ruggiero, 23, of Nicholasville was arrested and faces charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and second-degree burglary.
Tudor said Ruggiero also had three open warrants for failure to appear, non-payment of fines and probation violation.
Nicholas J. Crespo, 19, of Nicholasville was also arrested on second-degree burglary charges. Tudor said Crespo was “hanging out” with Ruggiero but was not involved with the drugs.
Tudor said Ruggiero had a gram of herion in his possession.
Once Tudor discovered the scene, he called for assistance from the Nicholasville Police Department and Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office.
“They were complementary,” Tudor said. “They said it was a good job and they were glad to get it off the street.”
Ruggiero remains in the Jessamine County Detention Center on a $50,000 full-cash bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Jessamine County District Court at 1 p.m. Thursday.
As for the warrant Tudor was trying to serve, his target, Jimmy Hale, wasn’t at the address. The warrant did not have anything to do with the drug arrest.
