Asbury University, in partnership with the University of Kentucky, will host the fourth annual Draft Horse Day on Saturday, Sept. 15, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The free event will be held again at the Asbury University Equine Center, with the main attraction being a draft horse demonstration. The day will start at 10:30 a.m. with the parade of teams and continue with events through the afternoon.
This year four teams of horses are expected to participate, with potential for several more. At the event people will watch demonstrations of draft horses at work, and learn from the knowledgeable teamsters who work these animals.
This is an opportunity to see the strength and abilities of workhorses and to learn how farmers worked the land before tractors. For children and adults alike, this opportunity promises to be fun as well as educational.
The teams will also participate in team games, competing against one another in friendly rivalry.
Other attractions include a children's activity area with pony rides, educational booths hosted by UK’s College of Agriculture, demonstrations by the Asbury Police Mounts program and food supplied by the Jessamine County Cattleman's Association for purchase. The event is a perfect opportunity for friends and families to come together to enjoy horses in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
