In an attempt to better promote its $20 on the 20th campaign, the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce launched its cash mob campaign Wednesday afternoon at Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, located at 111 N. Plaza Drive.

“You know those flash mobs you’ll have at malls where one person will get up and sing?” chamber of commerce office manager Myrna Spratt asked. “Well, this is a cash mob, where we will all get together and go mob Bruster’s; they don’t know we’re coming. We’re going to buy stuff.”

According to chamber director Amy Cloud, each month on the 20th  — as long as it’s during the work week — chamber ambassadors will surprise one of its members with a cash mob and spend money at that location.

“We got the idea about a month ago,” Cloud said. “We’re trying to think of a way to draw more attention to $20 on the 20th, and this is something that will help our businesses that don’t always get attention or news in the paper. We might not be spending 20 bucks (per person) on the 20th, but at least we will recognized a business by having a cash mob instead of a flash mob.”

The chamber’s $20 on the 20th program is designed to get Jessamine residents to shop at local businesses on the 20th of each month.
